His work
is an eyeglass through which you can view a glimpse of the artist. Born in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1983 where he
became a full-time artist. Presently, he resides in Delray Beach, Florida.
Married with three children & four grandchildren.
As a
child magicians fascinated him and magic acts and the illusion they created,
that vivid sense of illusion has become the central focus of his work.
His
acrylic-painted canvases and wood constructions are based on pure geometric
and chromatic abstractions. Slutsky’s works of art create the illusion of
movement and three - dimensionality. He achieves these effects by
juxtaposing hard-edged color patterns that disrupt the normal process of
vision. The artist depends on subtle color gradations, systematic
chromatic harmonics lines that are painted by his steady hand - eye
co-ordination.
The artist’s
remarkable craftsmanship and self-imposed standards of quality allow his
ideas to leap off the artwork into the viewer’s mind, with little
interference as possible from technical necessities. Without exception, he
presents his subject’s inexhaustible variations, reconfiguring simple shapes
and primary colors in order to deliver an element of refreshing surprise.
All of
his creative output is thoroughly investigated and arrived at through a
self-examining trail-and-error process. The artist pushes to the edge,
following the muse of innovation, uneasy with any leveling off or plateau.
He finds contentment only by refusing to be content. This inspiration is
not a place to arrive at or to be, but more an activity on a path. It is a
spiritual endeavor.
They do not
make any more geometric shapes, and it has been said there is nothing new
under the sun, but because Stanford Slutsky believes that the human mind is
endless, he keeps reaching out to better share those ideas that fascinate
him so. His works are found in Museums, Galleries and Corporate collections.
